Centerville is an older, established neighborhood nestled between Folly and Camp Roads. It is known as Centerville because it is on land that was once part of the historic Centerville Plantation. Subdivision roads include Santee, Lady Cooper, Lady Ashley, Combahee and Gilbert Streets. The area is known for its numerous pecan trees, which were planted in the early 1900s.
Many of the homes in Centerville were developed in the 1950s and range in size from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet. Centerville real estate is priced around the $120,000–200,000 mark, and the area is an excellent place for investment property owners or first-time homebuyers looking for a modest starter home.
The Centerville subdivision is close to several grocery stores, banks and numerous restaurants. The neighborhood is located near the center of James Island, and is convenient to both Folly Beach and the James Island connector, which accesses downtown, West Ashley and Interstate 26.
