As a James Island golf course community, Country Club I is perhaps the priciest area on the island. Besides being situated right on the golf course of the Charleston Country Club, some real estate in the quiet neighborhood is on the waterfront.
Country Club I, also known as Country Club Estates, bounded on the north by Wappoo Creek. The luxury real estate in Country Club I ranges in price from $550,000 to more than $1 million. Homes were built in this area beginning in the 1940s and on into the 1960s. An older (c. 1960), 2,500-square-foot home with three bedrooms and two baths could easily set you back $600,000. Most of the homes on Wappoo Creek feature their own docks and deepwater access.
The prestigious, private Porter-Gaud School is just across the Wappoo Creek on Albemarle Road in West Ashley. Also very close to Country Club I on Windermere Boulevard are Starbucks, Earthfare whole foods grocery and the public library. The neighborhood is right across Folly Road from Maybank Highway, which takes you out to Kiawah Island for a beautiful day at the beach.
